At dusk, the courtyard of a mud-brick building in the Yazd Old City serves as football field for local children. Located in the middle of the desert in Central Iran, Yazd is arguably one of the oldest living city in the world. Yazd was visited by Marco Polo in 1272, who described it as a good and noble city and remarked its silk production. The name Yazd means worship. And badgir, the wind tower to control the indoor temperature, is one of distinctive feature of this city (visible at the upper right corner of the photograph).
